Monetizing your site
A lot of people think that they can make a fortune just by having a website and placing adverts on it.
NOT TRUE!
Back in the late 90's when the .com boom was in full swing, people where making huge incomes by selling advertising on their sites. A lot of sites were down right hideous as it was impossible to see what the actually content was because of the floods of adverts coming out of the screen at you. They were bundled with one of the biggest scourges of the internet, the pop up ad!
But like everything, this boom wasn't going to last, and it came crashing to a halt after a few short years. Advertising rates were slashed from the huge payouts during the .com boom. Now a days there is still money to be made from advertising and the ads can be seen everywhere. But the days of the .com millionaires are long gone, and to make any kind of money from advertising on your site now you need to have a massive traffic turn over. Not only that, you also need to have very relevant content that has a high click through rate, and a decent CPC rate. I'll go through what all these mean in the next article. For now I just want to show you the most common types of adverts you'll see.
Below are 3 different types of Google Ad's. Google ads are run through Google Adsense. In its most basic terms, you put the ad code into your website, and receive credit to your account when someone clicks on the advert. The credit ranges from a few cent to a few euro and is dependant on a number of factors. Again i'll explain all these more in another article.
